It's a platform I started for people in the UK to talk about EV conversions and modified EV's, so enthusiasts like me and you can get involved in the subject.
The website is a forum for members to discuss their builds, ask questions, check for updates in tech and find companies that can assist in building EV cars or supply parts to build one Companies for EV Conversions | ChargeheadsUK. There are also a few generic videos including a tab of Chargehead ones I've made Chargehead Videos | ChargeheadsUK.
I also post related videos on Facebook (20) Chargeheads UK | Facebook including the Chargehead ones, there is an instagram and twitter for updates on the Chargeheads build to, links on the homepage.
The goal is to increase EV build awareness, reduce the costs of EV conversions and improve them. Once Chargeheads have a conversion up and running with a decent following my aim is to push the government for fixing subjects like: Post 2001 EV conversions paying road tax. Which makes no sense at all, that a well researched EV conversion chap I met online called Ken highlighted in a discussion I found.
As our current government are so committed to the reduction of CO2 emissions 😄 surely they need to give support and or further incentives to make EV conversions. Ideally in a volume way moving forward if possible as the amount of redundant ICE cars will increase exponentially, and a sensible solution would be to convert a large proportion of them.
The high battery prices will inevitably come down, so its the challenge of technology or suitable kits, labour cost and skill that needs a solution at the moment.
Or we melt the majority of ICE cars down other than a number of special ones..... Doesn't this go against the main reason of producing EV's in the first place, for reducing CO2 emissions???? Which will make EV conversions just a very small niche for enthusiasts. What do you think?
Maybe volume EV conversions is pie in the sky in our current throw away capitalist culture, I hope not!
Another reason for this platform is for my genuine love and passion of feeling part of a car when driving, sensing the road beneath you, directness of the steering and the vulnerability of driving a car with no driving aids or heavy safety technology. Whether that's on a journey to work or spirited drive in the country.
You can't buy an EV like that with all the current regulations, so it must be built. You only really get that from an older lighter car. At the moment my project is a TVR Wedge or the Wedge e, check out the progress in Chargehead Videos | ChargeheadsUK.
Well said, I see the future of home conversions not in kits but in re-using scrap EVs. This brings down the costs and helps the environment by re-using parts.
