I'm planning to convert my Jeep to EV. Trying to work out best motor/battery etc. for it. I established the rpm of the propshafts to the axles at various road speeds. I plan to ditch the engine and auto gearbox and bolt the motor via a plate to the transfer case, so the motor and prop-shafts will spin at the same speeds.
at 30 mph = 1,164 rpm
at 60 mph = 2,328 rpm
at 90 mph = 3,492 rpm (not that I'll ever go that fast in an old Jeep!)
Looking at the torque and power curves of various motors, it seems the Yasa P400 is ideal as its power peaks at 3,500 rpm. The Hyper 9 peaks way higher than that and I'd want two of them anyway. I don't want to even consider gearing between motor and transfer case. I only occasionally off-road, most miles are done on motorways and A-roads.
So if I go with the Yasa, the only reservation I have is that it's a 750v motor. Apart from getting an extra big tickle if I'm not very careful, is this a problem for a DIY EV conversion?
Or am I getting this all wrong? Is it all about the torque, not the power?
